Mosambi is native to northeastern India, where it is called Mitha nimboo. It is thought that Mosambi citrus may be a hybrid of a Mexican lime and a sweet lemon. The fruit can be found growing in Florida and Southern California in the United States, in Egypt (as Limun helou), Pakistan, Syria and much of the Mediterranean region. Mosambi trees will fruit 5 to 7 years after its first planting and requires a dry, hot climate to produce. Mosambi citrus was first introduced to the United States around the turn of the 19th century.
