Description/Taste
Yumenoka strawberries are large and conical in shape. They can be harvested before the peak of ripeness and will maintain an even, vibrant red colored skin. The flesh is often a pale-red in color with moderate firmness. The Yumenoka strawberry is very juicy, has a refreshing aroma, and boasts a sweet and partially sour aftertaste.
Seasons/Availability
Yumenoka strawberries are available year-round, with peak season for field grown berries in the early to mid-summer months.
Current Facts
Although Japan was slow to growing strawberries they now cultivate many different varieties, each prized for its own unique characteristics. The Yumenoka variety is grown in the Aichi and Nagasaki Prefecture, and is most known for its conical shape and can often be sold individually packaged to highlight its uniqueness.
