The Purple Plum radish, botanically a part of Raphanus sativus, is a cruciferous root vegetable and a member of the Brassicaceae family. Unlike many other varieties of radish the Purple Plum is almost never pithy and stays crisp longer than most radishes. The vibrant color of Purple Plum radishes make them ideal for use on crudité plates or sliced thin and layered on buttered toast or crackers. Chop and add to salsas, salads and slaws to add color and a radish spice. Roasting the Purple Plum radish will enhance their naturally sweet flavor. Its edible leaves can be added to salads or used in stir-fries and soups. To store, keep Purple Plum radishes refrigerated and use within one week for best flavor and texture.
