Common mint is grown for its aromatic and flavorful leaves. The oval serrated leaves are indented with veins and come to a point. They impart a fresh clean scent and a strong mint flavor with sweet overtones.

Mint is the most common mint of the Mentha genus. It is also known as garden mint. Its genera covers the most aromatic herbs and flowering plants that also happen to have an abundance of culinary purposes.
Mint tops should be used as an addition to salads, beverages, desserts or as a garnish to both sweet and savory dishes. Mint bruises easily; it is recommended to tear the leaves gently instead. Keep mint cool and dry until ready to use.
Mint is primarily cultivated for its menthol, which is used in food, cosmetics, hygienics and medicine. Its oils are extracted through distillation to make a myriad of things, including toothpaste, candy, chewing gum and therapeutic compounds.
There are two significant mint species, Mentha spicata L. (spearmint) and Mentha piperita L. (peppermint). These are the most widely used mints throughout the world.
