Petite™ Basil is of the Genovese variety and resembles the fully grown version, but offers milder flavor and more subtle texture. It is more robust than micro basil and has a stronger basil flavor with developed notes of pepper and anise. The gently rounded leaves are a verdant green color with a satiny surface.

Petite™ Basil provides a heartier garnish option for restaurant chefs and home chefs alike. It is an early harvest of the mature annual herb known botanically as Ocimum basilicum. Petite™ Basil is part of a Trademarked line of specialty greens grown by Fresh Origins in San Marcos, CA. Designed to be slightly larger than microgreens, they are harvested after 2-4 weeks of extra growth. They offer more robust flavor, bolder color, sturdier texture and ultimately more versatility.
Petite™ Basil contains iron, potassium, dietary fiber and vitamins A, C and K.
Petite™ Basil offers a more robust flavor and more substantial texture than micro basil. It may be used interchangeably with other fully grown sweet basil varieties, but offers a more subtle flavor and delicate texture. It is specifically grown for eating fresh and is not ideal when cooked. Use as an edible garnish for tomato-based dishes, especially in raw heirloom salads with fresh cheeses. The aromatic flavor of Petite™ Basil pairs well with tomatoes, garlic, onion, corn, pear, mint, strawberry and cow’s milk cheeses. It will keep, dry and refrigerated, for up to a week but is best when used immediately.
Petite™ Basil has a short growing cycle lasting between 3 to 4 weeks from time of planting to harvest. It prefers plenty of sunshine in a humidity controlled greenhouse. The Petite™Green products from Fresh Origins have been a work in progress since 1995 from the farm’s owner and founder, David Sasuga. After growing flowering plants for 20 years, David always wanted to grow fresh produce and the opportunity came unexpectedly when a local chef bought some of his basil seedlings. It was then that David began producing Petite™ Basil and other varieties of tiny, fresh-cut seedlings. There are over 125 different Petite™Green products including another very unique variety of nutmeg flavored basil.
