Sweet Surrender® grapes are oval shaped and jet-black. Their bright green stems are a stark contrast to the dark color of the grapes. Thin skinned and very sweet as their name implies, these grapes have a rich plum-like flavor with little acidity. While typical table grapes measure at a level of 16 on the refractometer, Sweet Surrender® grapes have an astonishing 22 Brix level.

The Sweet Surrender® grape is a new variety of Vitis labrusca and V. vinifera hybrid developed by The Grapery® of Bakersfield, CA. It is a table grape in their Flavor Promise® line bred specifically for sweetness and intense grapey flavor. It combines the sugar-rich East coast grape with a traditional acid driven West coast variety for a juicy, flavorful and vigorous new crop. These “designer fruits” are a successful example of old-fashioned hand pollination, and painstaking breeding selection without the use of additives or GMO’s.
Sweet Surrender® grapes contain significant amounts of vitamins A, C and K. Flavonoids within the grape’s skin, such as resveratrol, provide antioxidant qualities which can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
The incredible sweet flavor of Sweet Surrender® grapes makes them perfect for eating fresh off of the stem. They make an excellent complement to salty cheeses and add a sweet burst to fruit salads. Roast or cook the grapes and reduce into a complex sauce for pork, poultry or duck. They can be made into jelly, jam or fresh juice pies. Other complimentary flavors include, almond, pistachio, hazelnut, walnut, peanut, lemon, strawberry, raspberry, endive, arugula, fennel, rosemary, mint, yogurt, sour cream, crème fraiche, goat cheese and blue cheese.
Sweet Surrender® grapes are grown exclusively for commercial distribution by The Grapery® in Bakersfield, California. They were developed in 2009 in a partnership with International Fruit Genetics, a California breeding program, as a part of their Flavor Promise® line. The idea was to bring the flavor and thin-skinned qualities of grapes grown on the Eastern coast of the US to the West coast. Other grapes created for the Flavor Promise® family currently include Sweet Celebration®, Sweet Jubilee®, Crimson Seedless and Autumn Royal.
