Striped Holland bell peppers are yellow bell peppers with deep red stripes that appear painted on in swaths. The bi-colored peppers are hand-grafted and slowly ripened to maximize flavor and maintain consistency. Striped Holland bell peppers are medium in size, with a somewhat uniform shape. It has well-defined shoulders and a thick, bright green stem. The Striped Holland bell pepper has a sweet flavor and a crunchy texture.

The Striped Holland bell pepper is a natural variation, a surprise hybrid of both yellow and red bell pepper varieties. The Striped Holland bell pepper can be botanically classified as a cultivar of Capsicum annuum. It is currently marketed in the Netherlands and Europe as Enjoya.
Striped Holland bell peppers contain high amounts of vitamin C, as well as potassium, folate and beta-carotene. The yellow and red coloring of the Striped Holland bell pepper is indicative of its health benefits. The naturally occurring phyto-nutrients that give the pepper its color also provide antioxidant benefits.
The coloring of the Striped Holland bell pepper makes it an ideal pepper for eating fresh and raw. Wash Striped Holland bell peppers under cool water, and remove the stem, seeds and ribs. Cut slices, lengthwise and serve on a crudité platter, green salad or simply as a snack. Serve slices of Striped Holland bell peppers with a variety of dips. The brightly, bi-colored pepper can be stuffed with grains and other vegetables and baked. Use sliced Striped Holland bell peppers on pizzas or inside calzones. The colorful pepper can be substituted for any sweet bell pepper. To store, keep unwashed Striped Holland bell peppers in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator, in plastic for up to a week.
The Striped Holland bell pepper won 3rd place at the Fruit Logistica, a fresh produce trade show held in Berlin, Germany every year. It is known in the Netherlands for having a “highly decorative value.”
The Striped Holland bell pepper has its origin in the Netherlands, specifically the town of Est in the province of Gelderland. The colorful pepper was discovered growing in the greenhouse of Wilfred van den Berg in 2013, a natural variation of the bell peppers he was growing. Van den Berg is a grower for Nature’s Alliance, who partnered with Enza Zaden to research the best cultivation practices for the new Striped Holland bell pepper. Bell peppers are originally native to the tropics, and have been grown in the Netherlands for decades. The relative newness of the Striped Holland bell pepper may make it a bit difficult to find outside of northern Europe.
