Sierra Beauty apples are yellow with a pink to red blush and vertical stripes. Its fine-grained flesh is crisp and juicy with a creamy yellow color. Medium sized and squat in shape the Sierra Beauty has a balanced sweet-tart flavor with nuances of spice and a floral aroma.

The sweet and delicately spiced flavor of the Sierra Beauty apple makes it excellent for use in dessert applications. The Sierra Beauty was first discovered in the 1890s growing as a chance seeding in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. In the 1920s it was again discovered growing in the Sierras near Chico and for a short while was sold by a few local nurseries then fell out of production. In the 1980s it was rediscovered by the Gowan family as a chance seedling growing on their orchard in Anderson Valley, California. This heirloom variety has since been picked up by a handful of specialty orchards in Northern and Central California where it is grown in small quantities.
