Purple Glazer garlic is available year-round.
Garlic is botanically classified as Allium Sativum, and a member of the lily family along with chives, shallots and onions. There are hundreds of types of garlic, each categorized as either a softneck or hardneck variety. Softneck varieties are most common as they are easier to grow, slower to bolt and generally produce more cloves per bulb. They are the supermarket varieties that people simply know as garlic. Hardneck garlics are generally more particular about their growing conditions requiring colder weather, and once harvested, have a shorter shelf-life. Purple Glazer garlic is a hardneck variety, and a subspecies of Purple Stripe garlic.
Purple Glazer garlic is typically harvested mid-season and is a variety that is best known for its baking applications. The outer skin is royal purple with silver streaks and is very easy to peel. It has a strong, long-lasting flavor without leaving an unpleasant aftertaste. Its high volume flavor and firm texture make it an optimal garlic for roasting.
