The pea plant is a climbing vine that can reach heights of 2 meters when mature. They have round hollow stems with thin coiled tendrils and soft green leaves with pale yellow veins and a subtly lobed round shape. The pods have a distinctively golden exterior, and the peas themselves are a yellowish-green color. The overall texture is snappy and crunchy with a rich water content. Golden Sugar Snap peas have a fresh grassy aroma and a sweet vegetal flavor with nutty qualities.

Botanically known as Pisum sativum, sugar snap peas are an herbaceous annual in the Fabaceae family. They were developed by breeding a Chinese snow pea with a mutant pea plant. The result is a snappy sweet pea with thicker walls and plump pods.
